Angel Fire
Economic Outlook

From the Desk of Mayor Stuart Hamilton

2009 has been an interesting year from an economic point of view. Our local economy has reflected the national economy in some aspects. Occupancy rates during the ski season were steady, but visitors did not spend as much. Real Estate was down a little from the previous year, but the prices held fairly steady. The village coffers were a little lighter than the year before as well. The overall year was not as bad as we could have expected given the national economy picture. For the most part, the Angel Fire economy was steady.

What is the outlook? I believe that the attitude of our community and visitors is upbeat and energized. The Village of Angel Fire and Angel Fire Resort are steadily completing and beginning projects. There are new commercial buildings and the first bricks and mortar building for the high school coming out of the ground. There is excitement in the village that hasnŐt been seen for quite some time. This excitement and positive attitude is translating into a better real estate market, sold out bookings for the holiday season, new retail stores opening and talk of more private investments in Angel Fire.

I believe that 2010 will be a year of excitement surrounding the opening of the new Country Club at Angel Fire Resort, new businesses opening and new opportunities for Angel Fire residents, part-time homeowners and visitors. Businesses will show steady improvement and the Village coffers will improve. I look forward to an exciting decade of growth and improved quality of life in Angel Fire.
